Combat Veterans Supporting Warriors with PTSD
Posted by Admin
ACVOW is a nonprofit organization which recruits combat veteran volunteers to mentor, coach and aid our warriors in the transition from combat, allowing for them as well as their loved ones to lead effective and gratifying lives. As many our military personnel come back from combat, they’re often met with completely new mental health conflicts in the form of combat stress. Without addressing their combat stress, veterans often find it tough to adjust to a peaceful society, which affects their education and occupations. When addressing PTSD , compared to many mental health care professionals, ACVOW likes to leave out the D, which means the word disorder. The volunteers of ACVOW believe combat stress is not a disorder, but a natural reaction to an exceptionally abnormal experience.ACVOW was originally developed in early 2001 to assist Vietnam veterans who were still battling post traumatic stress, or combat stress. Their trademark feature is its combat veteran volunteers who have the unique understanding of knowing what our warriors have experienced. Now, quite a few ACVOW volunteers are actually assisting to coach and assist warriors from Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
